Deep Thoughts

White Crosses

Once, there had been rows of white crosses,
A woman knelt here and tenderly planted a flower,
She cried but, tears do not nourish the soil.
Men came to pray, to remember, and to vow.
The wind swirled and swep the sand away so that the blood didn't show.
A great monument was built here to perpetuate the memory of those
who braved, and sacrificed, and lost.
There was no sound, all was quiet and peaceful,
And the hushed stillness that follows a storm,
Was no indication of the storm to come.
The sun shone brightly and made significant shadows on the ground
that cupped the sacred flow__here,
where there had been rows of white crosses.
Life is a great wheel that turns round and round,
See,_ here is the broken spoke again.
