D-Day
In Remembrance
He’s an old man now,
Under that Army cap.
It\'s just memories and dreams now,
But his history is more than that.
He fought the war against an enemy,
No one thought we should win,
But like the warrior within me,
He fought and he’d do it again.
He tells stories of that day,
And the soldiers that died.
Long ago and far away,
And all the tears he’s cried.
He joined the ranks of many,
Crawling on the beach,
And all that is within me,
Knows his story’s not out of reach.
They took down the enemy,
While under attack,
He and his teammates, willingly,
And he swears that he’d go back.
This man that I called friend and brother,
Passed away long ago,
But I loved him like no other,
He was my old war hero.
But his spirit lives within me,
I’m a warrior to the core,
He helped defend my family,
From an enemy who is no more.
So the next time you see,
An old veteran, struggling to survive,
Remember there’s more their story,
And we owe them our very lives.
