you never know who is near
This event occurred more than 10 years ago. I was a private in the active duty army assigned the the US Army Honor Guard. We went on deployment to fort irwin in california for three weeks. We were sent out to the field to be part of the OPFOR out there. I was with my platoon at the time as a dragon gunner during the final phase of the first excericise. My platoon was the last surviving unit from our company out there. We traveled all night to the blinking lights of bradley shooting at us with lasers. My unit keep walking until we came to a wooden building site and that's when we got ambushed by bradleys. I was among the first "killed" so I was out of it that quickly. While the scene was still going on I was looking around wondering where my platoon leader was. He was nowhere in sight. After the exercise was over we heard that my platoon leader was back at the hiding place. Didnt realize I said this outloud, I said "that son of a *****" everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at me. My xo's jaw hit the floor when he heard that in the tower above me. The company commander had me doing pushups after that. After we boarded the trucks I decided to hide since the company commander told my platoon leader what I said although he thought it was more funny though. He found me hiding the truck told me he could understand some of my thoughts on it and told me not to do that again. |
