Megafriends Instant Messenger
The Megafriends Messenger is a great way to make contact with another member. In addition to a text chat exchange it also allows you to see and hear the other member, and they can see and hear you too! You can choose which option you want to use - video, audio, text or a combination of any or all!
How It Works
You may have noticed the small popup when you logged in. This small window allows you to be notified when another member wishes to contact you. Keep this window open at all times if you wish to receive and send instant messages. If you close this window the messenger will not work.
If you do close the window and later wish to open it use the Home link on the top of the left-hand menu. This will show a 'launch' button on the right-hand menu of your Account Homepage to open the window again.
Please note that this is not the IM window, this is just a window that is required to be open to allow you to use the IM. This window may move in behind your other opened windows.
How To Contact Member
To contact another member via Megafriends Messenger choose the "Instant Message" link located below their photo, the one with the blue icon. This will immediately begin a private chat session with that particular member. If you do not see this link then the member is not available for messaging. To see a list of all members available for IM choose the "See members who have Megafriends Messenger on!" link in the Megafriends Community section of your Account Homepage.
How To Use Text Chat
Megafriends Messenger works similar to Live Chat and the Emoticons are available for use here as well. Enter the text you want to send in the text box and then click send. You will see both yours and the other member's text in the Chat window.
The initial message will attempt to make contact with the other member and you will see the results of this attempt displayed in the Chat window.
How To Use Video
Click the button that says "Send Video" that is located on the Messenger window. Then you will be asked if you wish to allow Megafriends to access your webcam, click "Allow". If your webcam is working correctly you will see your video showing in the window to the left. If and when the other member connects via video you will see them in a window on the right.
To stop sending video click the "Stop Video" button. Although you will stil see your video it is not being sent at this time.
How To Use Audio
Click the button that says "Send Audio" that is located on the Messenger window. Then you will be asked if you wish to allow Megafriends to access your microphone, click "Allow". If your microphone is working correctly you will now be able to talk to the other member. If and when the other member connects via audio you will hear them via your computers sound system. Ensure your sound system is working and proper volume set.
To stop sending audio click the "Stop Audio" button.

A working webcam and microphone are required for video and audio use.
The user of Megafriends Messenger has to have more browser windows open and these have to support continuous data streams. Unfortunatey WebTV does not support any of these requirements.
Ensure that you are using a javascript enabled browser (Internet Explorer works best!) and that you have no "popup killers" installed.
