Profile Photo Tips
They say a picture is worth a thousand words but here at MegaFriends it is much more than that! We have found that the response rate is a lot higher for those that display a photo of themselves compared to those that don't. Our statistics also show that most members search profiles with photos only.
Because adding your photo is such an important part of your profile we have posted this tip sheet to help you get the best results. We have done this in a traditional Do's and Don'ts type list and have also included information on how to add your photo. Here goes:
DO's:
DO take a close-up photo, a head shot, instead of a full body photo. Body shots, though nice, tend to make it much harder to see a full view of your face. Save the body shots for your Photo Album.
DO have a professional take your photo, if possible. Go to your local photo shop, like Sears or Wal-Mart, and have a color photo taken. They run specials often. The cost is minimal. (After you scan and upload it you can frame it and give it to your mother, she'll love you for it! :) If you can't get a professionally taken photo ensure that your photo is at the very least, crisp and clear. There's nothing worse than trying to figure out what a person looks like walking out of a snow storm!
DO use a recent photo. It really doesn't help if your age shows you as 42 but the photo was taken when you were 19.
DO upload your photo in .jpg or .gif format. Any other format will not upload. If your photo is in a different format and you can't convert it just email it to us and we'll do it for you. Please include your nickname in the email.
DO use a photo of yourself. Using a photo of someone else is starting off on the wrong foot. It will come back to haunt you, trust us on this one!
DO check the background of your photo before you post it. Your surroundings say a lot about you and we have seen some photos that don't say very good things. :)
DO ensure that your photo is somewhat square. Your thumbnail photo is automatically created square so if the photo you are posting is longer than it is wider it will skew out of shape. The best photos to submit are those that are square or nearly square. If the only photo you have is not square copy it on to a square or nearly square background.
DON'Ts:
DON'T use a photo where we can't see your face. We will not accept photos that are out of focus, show the back of your head, has a black box over your eyes, etc.
DON'T use a photo where your are hugging your last boyfriend or girlfriend. This does not impress a potential mate.
DON'T post a photo of you in your underwear. No one really wants to see this, you may think they do, but they don't. Again, trust us on this one.
DON'T use a photo of a celebrity, a cartoon character, a picture of a rose, etc. These are removed immediately.
DON'T post a baby photo. Though cute, these are best added to a Photo Album.
DON'T post a photo that is upside down or sideways. Flip it correctly then post it.
DON'T post an obscene, profane, offensive, sexually oriented, sexually suggestive, naked, nude, nor XXX photo. Your photo and profile will be removed immediately,
DON'T add a url, email address or any other contact info to your photo. These too, are immediately removed.
DON'T post a photo of you in a group. No one will have any idea which person you are. These are usually removed.
DON'T post a hunting photo that shows a dead animal.
DON'T post a photo that has graphic additions like stars, sunsets, happy faces, etc.
DON'T post a photo that has words or writing on it.
ADDING YOUR PHOTO:
To add your photo log in and click the "Click here to see/add/change/delete your photo." link in the Your Photo section of your Account Home page (the page you arrive at when you log in.). Once there, click the "Choose the photo file..." button in the form near the bottom of the page to select your .gif or .jpg file from your hard disk (You may have to change "File Type" to view "All Files" on the "File Upload" dialog box that opens up in order to see graphic files.), and then once you have chosen a file the photo starts uploading to your Megafriends account. Once the upload is complete you will be forwarded to a confirmation page showing the photo you added to your profile. That's all there is to it!
If you get an error message when trying to add your photo regarding file type this means that your photo is not in either .jpg or .gif format.
Any photo editor will allow you to reformat your photos, also most scanning software. If you don't have a photo editor, you can download one for free at, among other places, http://www.download.com. Do a search of their download area for "photo editors". Alternatively, you can use an online photo editor.
And if all else fails, send your photo to us as an email attachment. Remember to include your nickname in your email.
If you don't have a digital photo and require your photo to be scanned, any office supply type store such as Kinko's or Office Depot will do this for a small charge.
Although it can take several weeks, you can also mail your photo to us to scan and upload to your account. Please send your photo here:
